Good evening everyone. We're going to give people a chance to hop on, so give me about 2 to 3 minutes and then I will give my presentation.
We're going to give people one more minute to hop on, and then I will start my presentation.
Alright, I'm gonna go ahead and get started on. My name is Ranisha Lewis. I am an admissions officer here at UA FS. I attended school here. I went to school here couple years ago so don't want to my age but it's been a little bit since I graduated work. I've been working here for a year and a half now so I have a lot of experience working here. You, AFS, and being Kerry Uafs. So if you guys have any questions, please put them in the chat. I will answer them kind of the way this format works. If you haven't been on one of these is that you cannot.
Talk to me directly like this so you do have to put your questions in the chat if you have any. As you guys know, I'm going over our scholarship opportunities. So like I said, if you have any questions about any of that, please ask. If you have a question about something else that's not related scholarships, you can ask me that as well. I know a lot of things so please feel free to ask any questions that you have this session last till about 6 and we will go until that time. I have another web and are at 6 so if you don't get to ask your question.
There is a contact slot at the end and then you can email me or call me and then I will for sure get an answer back to you.
So like I said, this whole thing is about scholarships. We do have all of our scholarship information on our website and in the event that you can't see this or if it's too small or something like that, all of our scholarship information is on our website. And if you want me to put the website in the chat, I can just let me know if you would like me to do that. So I'm gonna start talking about our merit scholarships first are merit scholarships. Are the scholarships that you do not have to apply for your application for these merit scholarships is going to be your application to the college.
I'm so that's very important to know that your application to the college is your application for these merit scholarships, what that means is whenever you do your application, we will need a transcript. We will need to see your AC T scores in your GPA because that's how we're going to base those who gets these scholarships based off of AC T and GPA.
So it will require that I know a lot of questions students have is like what is the last act that is considered for the scholarships? Because our scholarship priority deadline is November the 15th or scholarship the acts where we're looking at the next one is going to be the ones offered in October. So you're going to want to make sure that if you are trying to get that last AC T in to get that score up just a little bit more. We are looking at the October 1 for a November 15th deadline. That does not mean you can.
You stop taking them if you so choose. You can take the December 1 but just know that our priority deadline is November 15th, so we will need all AC T scores in by that date, as well as transcripts and everything like that, so please make sure you get all of your stuff into us by November 15th. That's going to be your transcript with your AC T scores on it. Annual GPA.
Now you can request these documents from your counselor. Your counselor can send those to us in the Mail they consented to us electronically. I suggest if you want to request it from them, to do it electronically, electronically will get to us faster then through the Mail. The Mail just seems to take forever. So if you want to request a transcript from a counselor, just have him send that directly over to us. They can send it to our email. They can send it to us through parchment. Whatever service they use. Your chancellor though, can send that to us.
So the way this works or academic opportunity is going to be the lowest scholarship that is going to be with the smallest or the AC T score of a 19. So you look at 19 with the 2.7 for the academic opportunity. The academic excellence is going to be a 21 with a 3.2 and then the academic distinction is a 25 I believe. Yes a 25 with the 3.5. So what this means is you have to have both of these components to get these scholarships.
You cannot have one or the other, so so you think you qualify for the academic distinction. If you have a 2500 AC T, but your GPA is not a 3.5, you would no longer qualify for that scholarship and you would qualify for the academic excellence. So if you are trying to get these scholarships, make sure that your HCT and GPA do align so like a 25 with the 3.5 for the excellence of 21 with a 3.2 and for Opportunity and 19 with a 2.7 so you have to have both. You cannot have one or the other.
And then the ranges for those scholarships do range based off of the because of how distinction they are. So the academic distinction is the highest merit scholarship, so that is going to be like say 25 with a 3.5 GPA, so that is going to be offered the most amount of money out of all of these scholarships that I'm speaking about right now. And also for priority consideration, which means kind of like a first come first serve. You do have to have your fast food done.
You have to have your fast food done by the deadline of our scholarships as well, so we're saying that we want the fast food done by November the 10th. So right now is prime time to get everything done because you are about a month out. So now would be a good time to get your fast food done to get all of these documents into us that way.
You're not scrambling in rushing a month from now, and I know a month from now things may be completely different. You may not be in classes you may not see a counselor, so definitely try to get everything to us right now while you can, because this is the most important time for you. I hate to see anybody rushing to get their documents into us, so definitely do it while you have a lot of time, so please feel free to get that stuff into us. We will put everything in the computer in the system, so definitely just make sure you are going to do that application.
OK, and next is the prestigious scholarships. So these are going to be for the ones with a little higher of a AC T score and that GPA.
Require a little bit of work and so this is one of the more distinct for our students, so if you know that you have higher than the 25 on the AC T definitely pay real close attention to this part because some things have changed since the last year, so some of you may know about the CLC scholarship that we have offered in previous years. That is the Chancellor's Leadership Council scholarship, so we no longer offer that scholarship. All of those funds that went into that scholarship are now in the Honors Program.
So now the honors program is like one of our like robust prestigious scholarships that we do offer. It does still have the same effect of the CLC as of it being full tuition and fees.
So we're looking for ACT score for 27 with the high school GPA of 3.5 for the Honors Program Scholarship, and that is going to be like I said, full in state tuition and fees over the course of your four years. So the thing to note about these instead of just applying to the University, you will have a separate application along with the prestigious application. You do have to get 2 letters of recommendation so you can get those from teachers that you've had in the past. You can get that from a counselor. You can get that from like.
Youth leader, a church member or something like that. Anybody that can attest to your character, saying that you're a good student, saying that you're a hard worker involved in your community. Something like that. So remember that you do have to do those there. Loves recommendation. We also require a resume, so we will require a resume for the prestigious scholarship. That way we can see what you have been involved in at school.
So I don't know if you guys have a resume made. If not, definitely go ahead and get that started. There's plenty of templates online. I'm basically what the resume is showing us. Is your GPA. We want to see that? I mean want to see all your extracurricular activities? And if you have a job so all those things are going to go into making up a resume, we want to see if you are the captain of the cheerleading squad, or if you're playing football, or if you're in band or anything like that. We want to see everything that you're involved in order campus.
And then any kind of awards you may have gotten, we need to see that as well. 'cause that just shows us how round, well rounded up an individual you are. So definitely get started on a resume. If you do not have that. Also, there is a essay prompt. I don't know what the essay asks, but I do know that there is one. It may take you to write like a page describing whatever it asks, so just be mindful of that and that's why I say it's so important to start these applications early, especially the prestigious because it is more than just applying. You will have to gather these documents from people.
And where do you find the prestigious application at? Is going to be in your portal when you apply, so if you have already applied, you know what I'm talking about is the portal. When we tell you everything that we need from you with a checklist, if you qualify for procedure, scholarship is going to already have it in there. It's going to say prestigious scholarship application and you will go ahead and go into that and apply. That is how you would get to apply for the prestigious scholarship and then it will tell you everything else that you need to get from us so.
That is for the Honors Program.
The other three that you see on the screen or specific to major stem. That is for anybody that is majoring in the stem field. So science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The other engineering scholarship or First Bank Corp, which is a business scholarship. These also are very highly competitive scholarships because they don't offer very many of those. The honors program is going to offer the most scholarships out of the four, so they will have more opportunity for more students to get those.
Think about the major specific scholarships is if you decide to go one route and say you're going to do business and you qualify for the First Bancorp Scholarship and then you.
Had to change your major. You will lose that scholarship, so definitely don't do a major specific scholarship. If you know that there's a possibility of you changing your major because you don't want to lose or out on those funds. So I say the safest bet is just to do the Honors program because that doesn't matter what your major is, it doesn't matter what your major is. For that you can change it if you want, and you can still qualify for that honors scholarship, but for the others, just make sure that you are staying within that filled.
If that is something that you want to do.
Then I say that you don't know if you want to do business or not, but you decide that you want to do business and do the Honors Program Scholarship. You can apply for both. I say go ahead and apply for both and see if you get one or the other. If you get both, you will only be able to choose one. You cannot get both of the scholarships, but that just gives you more of an opportunity to possibly get one or the other. So definitely consider that.
So say that you don't you do these scholarships and then there is an interview process as well. So say that you do it, you do the interview and for some reason they decided to go a different route. Decided to go with somebody else. You can still qualify for the academic distinction, which was one of the highest Merit Scholarship. You can still qualify for that if you don't happen to get one of the procedure scholarships. So if you don't get a procedure scholarship, don't think it's the end. Don't think that you may not get any funds if you will still be able to qualify for the academic distinction.
It won't be as much as these, but it will still be enough to help you out.
OK, in the next hour scholarship I'm talk about is our foundation scholarships. These scholarships that are run through our campus to uafs. They say that you can begin applying for these at the beginning of November and this is for all UAF students. So coming in as a freshman you can qualify for these and students that already go to uas can qualify for these as well.
Um, we don't ever know how many of these scholarships they're going to award, so we just say go ahead and apply. The more, the merrier. You never know, you may be you may be a recipient of 1, so we definitely say go ahead and apply for these. These will stack with the other ones I spoke about.
Just because you meet the minimum requirements does not guarantee that you will be awarded one of these scholarships.
Because these scholarships are available to so many students across our campus, there will be hundreds of applicants for these. So just because she meet the minimum requirements does not mean you're guaranteed anything. You were just going to answer the whatever it asks you to do for the scholarship and just know, like I said that these are available to all you AF students, so you won't be the only one applying and there will be other upperclassmen that would apply for these as well.
OK, so other common scholarships that I just want to speak about. Real quick Arkansas rehabilitation.
These are for students that may have some sort of minor disability or something like that Arkansas rehabilitation. They do offer scholarship opportunities, so if you think you fall in that category, you may want to check them out and see if you qualify for something that they offer the next type of scholarship that we have that I know that we do accept is the Choctaw and Cherokee Nation scholarships, so anything for being of Indian descent you can. They do offer a lot of scholarships.
For those for that, and we do accept those so definitely. If you think you fall into that category, send us any information that you need, get those scholarships filled out, because we do accept them, and so those will also stack on top of any kind of other scholarships you get. So if you get other scholarships from Uafs on top of those bastock, so definitely be sure you checking that out and local companies so I know for me when I was a student, there were some companies that offer scholarships where my parents worked.
They offer scholarships. There. I worked at Taco Bell as a student when I was in college and they offer scholarships to people that work there. So definitely, if your job offer scholarships as well because they may just know that I don't think you can like quit in the middle of your job. It continue receiving the scholarship, but just know if you work somewhere and you plan on working there throughout your college career or at least for a year. So I'm definitely check out to see if they offer scholarships because I know talk ability. I believe McDonald's might do it as well.
And so just see if the place that you work offer scholarships, because I did get money from when I worked at Taco Bell, so that's pretty cool that they did offer that for me. And definitely like I said, if you have parents that work at some pretty big places, big corporations around town, definitely check with them to see if there's car. They, their companies have anything.
One more thing that I did want to mention. I don't know if I have any Oklahoma students on here, but if I do, I just wanted to let Oklahoma students know that we do not accept Oklahoma promise. That is a big thing for us in Oklahoma, we don't accept Oklahoma promise and that's just because we are an Arkansas institution and we cannot accept Oklahoma promise. But we do offer in state tuition to our border states. So if you are a Oklahoma student, we do offer in state tuition. If you're interested in attending UA FS and coming here with us.
That is pretty much the end of my presentation. If you guys have any questions or something you can put it in the chat, I'll stick around for a couple more minutes. I'm just because I have a 6:00 o'clock meeting, but that's the end of my presentation. So if you guys got all the information you want it, you guys can go ahead and hop off. But if you need my contact information it is going, I'm going to leave it up on the screen so you can email me or call me or email the admissions number, email the admissions email, or call the admissions number.
If you want to take down either email address for your counselor synagis something, go ahead and.

How many students are awarded with merit scholarships?
Let us know that you can provide my email to your counselor if they want somewhere to send it. That's perfectly fine. I'll exceed it. So go ahead and do that. So if you want to take down my email address.
How many students are awarded with merit scholarships? That depends on our funds. Basically what we like to say is, if you are going to apply before November the 15th, you have priority over anybody else that applies. So say there is 100 students or so that apply before November the 15th. Those students are going to have priority over anybody that applies after November 15th. So basically what we like to say is apply before November 15th. That is going to be your sure way of knowing that.
You already are in that priority consideration, so go ahead and do it before then.
I don't like saying we guarantee anything just because that's not my call, but definitely just make sure that you are doing those scholarship applications and everything before November 15th and especially for merit. All you have to do is fill out the application in the application. Takes about 510 minutes. I'm it's pretty fast, so if you want to just go ahead and do that, it is on our website. Make sure whenever you are looking for that, you're clicking the first link that apply that pops up on the apply now website. It says undergraduate students applying for fall 2021.
Here, so make sure your clicking that link and it'll take you to the website to go ahead and apply. So I hope I answered your question. I answered it to the best of my ability, but basically just make sure that you're applying for before November the 15th. So within the next month go ahead and get that done.
So if anybody else have any questions you can ask.
I will leave, I said leave my contact information up, takedown my email or my phone number. You can give me a call tomorrow 'cause I'll be leaving here soon, but please let me know if you guys have any questions or answer any questions about scholarships, oranges admittance into the University as a whole. I will be glad to answer any of your questions. Like I said, I'll stay on but if nobody else has anything to say, no more questions. Thank you guys for joining me. I really enjoyed getting to speak with Hill so I hope you'll have a good night.
Let me know if you have any more questions, thank you.
