It's not a meeting. No, it's OK hi.
So welcome to our 4th I think web and R of the rock the fast food web and R Series. We're going to go ahead and get started.
So remember for this webinar you can see us, but we can't see you necessarily. If you have any questions, you can type them out in the chat.
And this is being recorded. We're going to stick it on websites and have recordings sent to people so that if they have questions, they can watch these and get some answers.
Slides up here. Oh, 'cause There's three if there's two of me.
Oh, there's two screens now.
We're back on OK, I don't know what's happening.
Anyways, we're going to get started.
It keeps going in and out. Our topic today is you've submitted your fasfa. So now what happens?
And there's a couple of different things we're going to touch on. One is once you submit your hit the submit button, then what happened? So faster processing verification? Awarding of your financial aid, and then special circumstances.
OK, once you process your fast but it sends to CPS since the processing results of fast but it's student in schools listed on the Fasfa and this includes the student CFC messages related to database, match issues, verification, selection and eligibility for title 4 funds.
The school receipt receives the information electronically. This output.
Document is called the institutional student information record. Or I Sir, the type of output document.
The student receives from CPS depends on whether the student provided a valid email address on the fast left. The student will receive one of the following email notification of SAR processing provides access to the students electronics. Our papers are is sent. If a paper fasfa is filed and did not provide a valid email address or paper. Salts are acknowledgement. If FTW is submitted without a valid email address.
Email notification of SAR processing.
Containing direct link to students online SAR. If student provided email address on paper, fast paper or electronic fasla students with FSA ID may review results on WWW.
So it should be studentaid.org online. The student May.
My view or print his or her SAR create a shareable file containing select fasfa data. Make corrections to Fasfa and view faster transaction history.
Sara Sara acknowledgement. If the paper ifsar is sent paper phospho file without providing an email address, student my review data and make corrections to fast for information. Sir acknowledgement is sent FTW. Filed without an email address. Student made review data but cannot use to make corrections to bicycle information.
And then your eye certain institutional student information report CPS and results to colleges listed on the Fasfa Colleges review. I suran may request additional documentation. Additional documentation may include tax return, transcripts, proof that a sibling is enrolled in college, proof of high school completion, documentation of untaxed income, etc. Uas students should also receive email notification of faster receipt mid.
Mid December to June to early January.
Alright, so it's green again, so our next topic of after you submit your fast for what happened. So one of the things that might happen is you could be selected for verification. So verification is basically a process where the school is given the duty of making sure that the information provided on your fasfa is correct. So that's done by the school asking for additional documents from students. Examples of those documents that the school collects could be worksheets to verify the number of your household tax returns or tax transcripts W Twos.
So here at UA Fort Smith, we use a third party processor called pro verify plus. Basically it's an online system where students can upload documents electronically and that completes the process a lot faster. Some schools still complete verification in their offices, so it just depends on what school you're going to wear. You submit documents to.
What is wrong with this thing? Is red again type screen. So now we're going to move on to packaging. So after school received your fasfa, one of the next steps are going to do is package your financial aid. So we use a couple different things to do that. One of them is cost of attendance. This is also called your budget, so every student has a cost of attendance. This is estimated estimation of educational costs that you're expected to incur during a period of enrollment.
And usually it's a full academic year and that includes things like tuition, fees, room and board books, and supply is transportation.
So the next abbreviation we use is expected family contribution, so this information your FC is a measurement of students and families ability to pay for college. It has different components, so a student contribution and apparent contribution. If your dependants student.
Um FC comes from your fasfa, so all of the data, income, information and household size, number of college that you put into your fasfa is going to pull out any FC.
The school was going to take your cost of attendance, subtract your expected family contribution, and that's the amount of financial need that's or need based aid that the school could award you with. So that's your financial need. Your financial need can be different at different schools based on the cost of attendance, 'cause the cost of attendance is set by the school.
It read OK so based on cost of attendance and DFC that determines the amount of aid at a school could award you with so determines your need based aid. And then you're not need Bay State.
OK, sometimes information that you report in your fasfa isn't an accurate portrayal of your current financial situation. So sometimes after you complete your fasfa or since we use prior prior tax year, you could have had a change in income or your parents could have a change in employment status.
You could be experiencing unusual high medical bills that aren't covered by insurance. Changing parental parents, marital status, high student or sorry child dependent care expenses, so an unusual circumstance where the information on your fast food doesn't necessarily reflect your current financial situation. That's a special circumstance, so in a lot of cases a school can look at what's going on with you and determine if there could be adjustments made to your financial aid.
So like I said, it's a It's a condition that exists that can't be documented by your fasfa schools. Ask for a written explanation of what happened or what's going on. They asked for additional documentation from you, and then they're going to review everything you've turned in. They might request additional information, and then they make a determination on if we can adjust your financial aid at all. So decisions made by the school on your special circumstance are final and they can't be appealed.
By the Department of it to the Department of Education.
